Park Güel in Barcelona

Park Guell by Antoni Gaudi

Park Güell (Catalan: Parc Güell; Catalan pronunciation: [ˈpark ˈɡweʎ]) is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of el Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Works of Antoni Gaudí". Park Guell was commissioned by Eusebi Güell who wanted to create a stylish park for Barcelona aristocracy.
The park contains amazing stone structures, stunning tiling and fascinating buildings. You can see from this picture the Gaudi dragon fountain that is at the entrance to Guell park. This dragon is adorned in beautiful coloured tiling and there is something rather hypnotic and magical about it.
Here you can see a walkway supported by twisting rock pillars that seem to be growing out of the ground like tree trunks. Although these are rather irregular in shape they do feel strangely natural too.

Gaudi was strongly influenced by natural shapes and used them in his work.
At the top of Guell park is a terraced area where you get a wonderful view of the park and of Barcelona City. Here you will find multi-coloured tiled mosaic seats as shown in this picture. The vibrant colours of the tiles are truly breathtaking.
Park Guell also has a small house in the park which Gaudi lived in at one stage. The house has now been converted into a museum and contains interesting furniture also designed by Gaudi.

TIP: If you're visiting the park by metro be prepared for at least a 20 min walk. The last 200 m walk is up a steep hill. If you have difficulties going up steep steps then a taxi or bus may be a better means of transport. You'll find bus information at the tourist information office at Placa de Catalunya.

La sagrada familia

Hi everyone, i wanna show you one masterpiece of Spanish architecture, one of the most beautiful treasure of Barcelona, La Sagrada Familia.

Location:
Mallorca St. 401, 08034, Barcelona
Metro: Sagrada Familia (Blue Line, L5) and (Purple Line, L2)

La Sagrada Familia is one of Gaudi's most famous works in Barcelona. It's a giant temple that has been under construction since 1882 (that's not a typing error!) and it's not expected to be completed for between 30 to 80 years ( time for completion varies depending on different sources of information)

Much controversy surrounds the building of the Sagrada Familia. Today new construction materials are being used which, some feel, Gaudi himself would not have used.

When you visit the building you will see the c ontrast in the stone colour between the front and back of the building. Also the actual style of construction appears somewhat different between the new and old parts of the building.

Gaudi played an active role in directing the construction of the Sagrada Familia until his death in 1926. He would often request that work be modified and adjusted until it was exactly what he had in mind. However today, because of the nature of the existing designs, his work is partly open to interpretation.
Interpretation of the ordinal designs by present day architects is particularly challenging because the actual construction stones are irregularly shaped.

The building is still under construction so be prepared to see a lot of work continuing when you visit. However this in itself is interesting, especially if you visit the museum inside the building. There you will see the stone masons at work carving stones to be used in the building.
Regardless of all the controversy surrounding the Sagrada Familia it is a truly magnificent building and an absolute must-see when you visit Barcelona.

Barcelona

Hi people!
Sorry for delay.. i was so busy with the school U_U

Today i wanna talk about one of the main important cities of Spain. Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is a cosmopolitan Mediterranean city that incorporates in its urban street pattern Roman remains, medieval districts and the most beautiful examples of Modernism and 20th century avant-garde art. So, for many reason you should visit it.
Barcelona is a city steeped in culture and history, so if it’s some sight-seeing you’re after then you’ve come to the right place.  Barcelona is most famous for the fantastical architecture of Antonio Gaudi, whose building are scattered all around the centre of the city.
The most famous and impressive can be seen along Passieg De Gracia where you will find La Pedrera and Casa Batlló .  Or head to the Parc Guell which is a gorgeous parc designed by the man himself.  However the most impressive of Gaudi´s works is arguably the Sagrada Familia, the huge, still unfinished temple  You can’t fail to be humbled by such an imposing and ambitious project, the detail on the exterior walls is just staggering, but beware, if you are scared of heights don’t be tempted to climb to the top of the turrets.

Other than Gaudi, Barcelona does offer a lot in terms of architectural brilliance.  The Gothic Cathedral  in the heart of the Gothic quarter(pic1) is a must-see.  Just wandering around Barcelona you will come across a feast of beautiful buildings, and also get off Las Ramblas (pic2), there is so much more to see just 2 minutes either side of this famous street.

For all you culture-vultures out there Barcelona has plenty of museums to keep you happy.  The MACBA (museum of modern art) and the CCCB next door are worth a look and generally have good exhibitions on every month.  The Picasso and the permanent Dali exhibition in the Gothic Quarter are always popular.  The Caixa Forum is a museum which has different art exhibitions every month.  It is just off Placa Espanya, on Avenida Marques de Comillos that is popular with locals but much ignored by tourists, which is a shame because it’s great and free!  Near the Caixa Forum is MNAC (museum of Catalan art) which is so beautiful inside and out.
